Job Description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The project assistant will play a critical role in implementing agricultural programs designed to enhance food security and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable communities affected by crises. This position requires a dedicated individual with expertise in agronomy and a passion for humanitarian work, who will work collaboratively with local farmers, organizations, and stakeholders to promote sustainable agricultural practices and resilience in the face of climate change adversity
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and deliver training programs for local farmers on innovative agricultural techniques, pest management, soil conservation and sustainable farming practices.
- Give training on climate smart agriculture for project beneficiaries including sensitizing of climate change and its adaptation strategies
- assist in developing distribution plans of farm inputs (tools, seeds and tractor hours) to ensure the timely use of the inputs in enabling participating farmers for the best result.
- Monitor and document the project progress, lessons, good experience and impact with the community representatives.
- As part of the team the project assistant will be responsible for the community entry, developing and maintaining relationships with all project stakeholders at field level.
- Assists the Project team for empowering the communities to enable them adapt to unforeseen natural shocks through the creation of innovative livelihood options and system strengthening.
- Training community members on livestock modern management/husbandry.
- Responsible for ensuring equal participation by all categories of the community, taking into consideration issues regarding gender mainstreaming, age groups, PWDs & PLW within the target communities.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualification and Education Requirements
- Academic Qualifications of the position holder:
- BSC in Agronomy, Irrigation Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Arid land agriculture, Extension and other related field.
- A minimum of 2- 3 years of work experience for BSC holders’
- At least 3- 5 years of work experience in agricultural development with focus on humanitarian or emergency contexts.
Preferred skills
- Strong knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices, food security issues, and local farming systems in Somalia.
- Proven experience in conducting training and capacity building activities for diverse audiences.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills with ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, beneficiaries, government agencies and other agencies.
- Familiarity with local agricultural practices, crops, and challenges specific to Somalia.
- Experience in project management and implementation in a humanitarian setting.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis and reporting using relevant tools and methodologies.
- Ability to work under pressure and adopt to changing situations in a challenging environment.
