Position title: EPI Vaccinator (2 pts) (1 for Barawe and 1 for Ceel-Berde)

Reporting to: Qualified Nurse

Location: Barawe and Ceel-berde, Southwest, Somalia

Job summary:

This is to be an added value of quality to the current SOS health provision services in Somalia particularly in the EPI services offered in outreach programs. The job holder will be responsible of the overall planning, requesting, coordination and management, and reporting of the activities in the field of Immunization.

Job Responsibilities:

Main duties and Responsibilities:

➢    With respect, kindly welcomes the care givers of the children and the mothers who need immunization services.

➢    Safely provide immunizations to infants, children and adults according to formal protocols and schedule

➢    Participates in the EPI coordination meetings and district campaigns on Expanded Program on Immunization

➢     Prepares daily, weekly and monthly reports and submits to his/her immediate supervisor.

➢      Secure vaccines within required cold chain

➢      Ensure vaccines are properly stored, equipment is sterilized, and the patient's medicalhistory is reviewed.

➢   Carefully administer the vaccine using the appropriate technique, providing a calm and reassuring experience.

➢   Observe the patient for any immediate reactions and provide necessary follow-up care or referrals. Explain the vaccine's purpose, procedure, and potential side effects to ensure informed consent.

➢   Work closely with healthcare teams to coordinate vaccination efforts and address concerns.

➢     Conduct daily vaccination sessions in the primary health care facility as scheduled

➢      and holding outreach activities in the community

➢    Administer vaccines correctly in accordance with guidelines, while maintaining strict aseptic techniques

➢    Prepares daily, Weekly and Monthly reports and submits to his/her immediate supervisor.

➢     Any other tasks required by the line manager

Skills and qualifications

Essential

•       Hold Bachelor degree of nursing, PH, Diploma

•       Literate in spoken and written English

•       Minimum 2 years of experience in a busy hospital.

•       Previous experience as a vaccinator

•       Clear style of giving instructions

•       Gently with children with honed technique to give immunizations

•       Basic math skills.

•       Interpersonal skills.

•       File management skills.

•       Able to persistently and effectively tackle complex problems

•       Able to work with a variety of people in a remote setting

•       Independent, self-motivated, confident, interested in learning and committed to excellence.
