Position title: IYCF Facilitator ( 2 Pst) (1 for Barawe and 1 For Ceel-Berde)
Reporting to: IYCF Officer/ Team leader
Location: Ceel-berde and Barawe -Somalia
Job summary:
The IYCF facilitator plays a significant role in supporting families to provide optimal nutrition for their children during the critical first 1,000 days of life. This role involves educating, promoting optimum health and preventive health care, empowering, and supporting mothers and caregivers to adopt best practices for infant and young child feeding.
Job Responsibilities:
Main duties and Responsibilities:
• Educate Provide comprehensive education and counseling on IYCF practices, addressing specific needs of families based on their cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Empower Promote positive attitudes and behaviors toward IYCF, enabling mothers and caregivers to make informed decisions about feeding their children.
• Support Offer ongoing support and encouragement to mothers and caregivers, addressing their concerns and challenges related to infant and young child feeding.
• Collaborate Work collaboratively with other health professionals, community leaders, and organizations to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach to IYCF.
• Ensure that CNWs, mother support groups convey correct health and nutrition messages to the community and that the community accurately and correctly interpret those messages into actions.
• Collect and compile weekly and monthly IYCF reports and submit them to the team leader in a timely manner.
• Participate in health and nutrition assessments, surveys, surveillance, program reviews and other monitoring activities as required.
• Disseminate public health and nutrition education messages to improve knowledge attitude and practices.
• Ensure all mother/ care givers are aware of importance of exclusive breastfeeding for initial 6 months.
• Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit and provide guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their positions.
• Provide IYCF support and mentorship to other health clinical staff, providing on-the-job training where needed.

• Provide health education to all clients regarding breastfeeding and young child feeding.
• Support nutrition nurse on screen all children and pregnant and lactating women for acute malnutrition using MUAC and refer those who meet the referral criteria for health care services.
• Lead individual and group nutrition counseling sessions tailored to the needs of clients and caregivers.
• Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control measures.
• Train and work with CHWs, mother to mother support groups to ensure consistent messaging regarding best practices for IYCF and IMAM
Skills and qualifications
Essential
• Diploma/ Degree in Nutrition, Nursing, Midwifery, Public health, or related field
• Minimum 2 years of progressive professional experience in doing of IYCF Counsellor, or had work with Nutrition Partner for nutrition Projects.
• Excellent command in Somali and English
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ward Management Skills
• Basic Knowledge and experience Nutrition
• Proactive, result oriented, independent, able to identify and carry out duties with minimum supervision
• Demonstrable commitment to promoting and supporting optimal breastfeeding and complementary feeding.
• Demonstrable ability at report writing and excellent communication skills.
